Chinese smartphone giant Vivo has entered the mixed reality (MR) space with the announcement of its new headset, Vivo Vision. The wearable spatial computer was introduced on Tuesday at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025 by Hu Baishan, Vivo’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Interestingly, the device looks like Apple’s Vision Pro, which launched in 2023 and became commercially available last year.
A spatial computing contender
The Vivo Vision, showcased as a prototype, is set to be part of the company’s Blue Technology Matrix, an initiative that leverages artificial intelligence for everyday applications. While Vivo has yet to disclose full specifications, initial images of the device suggest a design akin to ski goggles. Its visor is expected to house an array of sensors, facilitating augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences.
In addition, two visible sensors positioned at the bottom of the frame indicate potential support for hand and finger gesture tracking, mirroring functionalities found in Apple’s Vision Pro. A robust headband, reminiscent of Apple’s design, is also present to ensure stability when worn.
However, details remain scarce regarding whether the headset will function as a standalone device or require a wired connection to an external computer.
Vivo expands into robotics
Alongside the mixed reality headset, Vivo revealed its latest venture into robotics with the establishment of a dedicated research lab. According to Hu Baishan, the company plans to develop the “brain” and “eyes” of robots by integrating the real-time spatial computing expertise accumulated through the Vivo Vision project.
Additionally, Vivo took the opportunity to tease its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Vivo X200 Ultra.
Pricing and availability
While the company has not yet provided pricing details, reports suggest that a prototype of the Vivo Vision will be unveiled in mid-2025. Further information regarding its specifications and operating system is expected to emerge in the coming months.
