Miami Open: Aryna Sabalenka defeats home favourite Jessica Pegula in straight sets to claim trophy | Tennis Newsnews24

Aryna Sabalenka produced a dominant performance to defeat American Jessica Pegula in the Miami Open final with a 7-5 6-2 win.

Pegula put up a fight in the opening set, winning three games in a row to briefly put the world No 1 on the back foot but Sabalenka held on to win the first set.

The second set was much more decisive with Sabalenka dominating throughout and Pegula showing signs of tiredness, leading her to frame the ball on championship point and hand Sabalenka her victory.

Sabalenka did not drop a set throughout the entire tournament and it is her second title as world No 1.

Fourth seed Pegula had defeated Emma Raducanu in the quarter finals 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 to end the Brit’s impressive run.
