England newcomer Jamie Smith has joined team-mates Joe Root, Harry Brook and Ben Duckett in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year.
Wicketkeeper-batter Smith is the only player to have made his debut in 2024 to be selected after scoring one century and four fifties across his first nine matches, making 667 runs in total.
Root (1,556 runs), Duckett (1,149) and Brook (1,100) starred with the bat in Test cricket last year and are joined in the top six by India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal (1,478), New Zealand’s Kane Williamson (1,013) and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis (1,049).

The bowlers are India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, Australia’s Pat Cummins and New Zealand’s Matt Henry, with no place for England’s Gus Atkinson despite the Surrey seamer taking 52 wickets, including a hat-trick against New Zealand, and scoring a maiden hundred against Sri Lanka since winning his first cap in July.
There are no South Africans in the XI despite the Proteas reaching the World Test Championship Final.
In the women’s ODI team of the year, England wicketkeeper Amy Jones was selected alongside spinner Sophie Ecclestone and seamer Kate Cross.
