Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook face global outage, services remain disruptednews24

In a significant disruption, Meta’s flagship platforms—Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook—are facing widespread outages, leaving millions of users globally unable to access essential communication services. The issue began surfacing earlier today, with users reporting problems ranging from failed messages to complete inaccessibility of the apps.

According to the outage tracking website Downdetector, there have been significant and sudden spikes in reports for Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, affecting a large number of users.

For instance, the Instagram Downdetector page has recorded over 70,000 complaints about the platform, signalling a significant and widespread issue. Additionally, Facebook has seen more than 100,000 reports of disruptions.

Many users experienced delays or complete inaccessibility when trying to access messages, posts, and updates. The outages seemed to impact both the desktop and mobile versions of the platforms.

Meta has acknowledged the ongoing issues and addressed them on its official X account, stating, “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to resolve it as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Similarly, Instagram also confirmed the issue on its X account, assuring users that it is aware of the technical difficulties affecting access and is actively working to fix the problem.

The cause of the outage has not yet been disclosed.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk-owned X has been flooding with humorous memes about the global disruption, and hashtags like #metadown and #instagramdown are trending.

“Everybody running to twitter to see if instagram, whatsapp down for everyone else,” said an X user Victør (by the handle @emreflnts).

One X user humorously posted, “Elon Musk and X headquarters right now,” mocking Meta’s platforms, accompanied by a gif of Elon Musk dancing.
