The Wooden Award is an award given annually to the most outstanding men’s college basketball player.
Zach Edey won the honor the last two seasons, but now that he has taken his talents to the NBA, who’s next?
The betting odds usually help identify the contenders.
Let’s check out the odds via DraftKings Sportsbook as of Feb. 10.
2023-24 JOHN WOODEN AWARD ODDS:
Cooper Flagg, Duke: -300 (bet $10 to win $13.33 total)
Johni Broome, Auburn: +200 (bet $10 to win $30 total)
There is some time left in the season, and just a few weeks ago, it appeared Flagg all but had the award wrapped up.
He was at -700 on Jan. 27, with Broome at +310.
However, the race has gotten slightly tighter as of Feb. 10, with Auburn and Duke battling to see which is the best team in the country.
The dynamic freshman Flagg had a bit of an up-and-down beginning to his college career, but over the last several weeks he’s become a college superstar.
In two Duke wins over Virginia Tech and SMU on Dec. 31 and Jan. 4, he had a combined 48 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists, three blocks and five steals.
On Jan. 11, against Notre Dame, he had 42 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
In a win over Boston College on Jan. 18, he had 28 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks, and in a win over Wake Forest on Jan. 25, he had 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
You get the point.
As for Broome, the senior big man is averaging a double-double on the season, putting up 18.1 points and 10.9 rebounds.
